Find the answer behind your next decision.

Search a phrase or choose a topic. These are general planning answers; the written scope for your shipment takes priority.

What information do I need to request a freight quotation?

Share the product description, supplier pickup city, destination city or address, package count, packed dimensions, gross weight, cargo ready date and the delivery tasks you want included. Flag any figures that are still estimates.

Can I ask for a quote before the goods are packed?

Yes. Mark dimensions and weights as estimates and ask when the amount will be reconfirmed against final packed cargo.

Why do two freight quotations show different totals?

Compare cargo inputs, transport mode, charging unit, delivery boundary, assumptions, validity and exclusions.

Does a door-to-door price include every charge?

Only the items explicitly included in the written quotation. Confirm duties, taxes, inspections, storage and special handling separately.

Which is more suitable for my shipment: air or ocean freight?

Consider cargo size, urgency, route, acceptance requirements and the complete collection-to-delivery cost and timeline.

What is the difference between FCL and LCL?

FCL uses a container for one shipper’s cargo; LCL combines compatible shipments. Compare packed volume, handling and the full service scope.

How long will my shipment take?

A practical timeline includes cargo readiness, collection, origin handling, main transport, destination processes and final handover.

Can cargo from several suppliers be combined?

Often, subject to cargo compatibility, ready dates, receiving arrangements and the agreed release rule.

Which shipping documents should I prepare?

The documents depend on product, route and service scope. Start with the commercial invoice, packing list and product details, then confirm destination-specific requirements.

Who is responsible for customs clearance and import charges?

Responsibility depends on the agreed Incoterm, destination law and written service scope. Confirm the importer of record and what the quotation includes.

What documents do I need to import?

The documents you need depend on the product, destination, shipping terms and the import rules that apply to your shipment. Start by confirming who will act as importer of record and asking the destination customs broker which documents are required before dispatch.

Prepare a commercial invoice with the seller and buyer details, a clear product description, quantities, values, currency and agreed terms. Check the packing list against the actual cartons, weights and dimensions. The carrier or forwarder will issue the relevant transport document, such as a bill of lading or air waybill.

Depending on the goods and destination, you may also need origin evidence, product certificates, licences, test reports or other regulatory documents. Do not assume one checklist fits every shipment. Give your supplier and broker the same product specifications and confirm names, addresses, quantities and reference numbers across the paperwork.

Before cargo is released, ask the broker to identify missing documents, who must provide them and the deadline. Keep the final approved versions together with the shipment record.

How long does ocean freight take?

There is no single ocean-freight transit time that fits every shipment. The total delivery timeline includes supplier readiness, pickup, export handling, vessel scheduling, the sailing itself, destination processing and final delivery. A carrier sailing estimate covers only part of that journey.

Ask for an itinerary that separates each stage and identifies the expected cargo-ready date, origin cut-off, planned departure, arrival and delivery handover. FCL and LCL shipments may follow different handling steps; consolidation and deconsolidation can add time outside the voyage.

Schedules can change because of carrier operations, port conditions, inspections, documentation issues or changes to the cargo. Treat the proposed dates as estimates until the booking and relevant handovers are confirmed. If the delivery deadline is important, discuss the acceptable buffer and alternative options before booking.
