The border decides the term
Under DDP the seller side clears the import and pays duties and taxes. Under DAP the buyer does. Everything before the border — collection, main transport, export clearance — is the same under both terms.
When each term fits
DDP suits buyers without an import setup, or markets where the import rules are straightforward. DAP suits buyers who already import and want control over duties and taxes. Small replenishment orders often work best on DDP, precisely because the import side would cost more attention than the cargo is worth.
Compare quotes on the same term
Never compare a DDP quote against a DAP quote directly: the DDP number includes duties and taxes that the DAP number leaves out. Compare on the same term, or rebuild both to the same delivered scope first.
