What each term arranges
CPT means carriage paid to a named destination, any mode, no insurance. CIP is the same plus insurance. DAP means delivered at the named place, ready for unloading, with duties and taxes still on the buyer.
Insurance is not equal across the terms
CIP now requires all-risk cover at a high level; CIF does not. If the cargo is fragile or high-value, do not rely on the term alone — name the required cover in the contract and check the certificate before departure.
What still sits with the buyer
Under all three terms the buyer handles import clearance, duties and taxes, and any final leg beyond the named place. Agree that place precisely — “DAP Shanghai” and “DAP warehouse in Suzhou” are different journeys.
